Unpacked is a weekly newsletter covering politics and policy in Singapore.

Every Monday, we will unpack the biggest stories of the past week into what it means with insight and context. The regular news feed is often too incremental and disconnected and we want to make sense of it for you (and ourselves).

We’ll also pick out interesting bits buried in stories or floating around the Web - some insightful, some intriguing, some perhaps inane - in the second section. (We’ve called this Second Reading, a small Easter egg for Parliament fans.)

About Us

We’re current affairs nerds and long-time enjoyers of political newsletters from around the world. Having been with SPH Media for some years, we thought it was a good time to try it out ourselves. When better to start a politics newsletter than the year of GE2025 and SG60, right?

Yan Han joined The Straits Times in 2018. She covered social affairs for two years before focusing on political news. She wants to know the why and how behind things - be it changes to political strategy or public policy. Or the exhaustingly long amount of time it takes for a fractured wrist to heal..

Wei Kai joined The Straits Times in 2020. He was on the breaking news desk and then moved to cover education, and was at The Business Times for a year as well but nobody talks about that. He has a keen interest in electoral politics and how they shape public policy and social equity. He also has a cat.
